sara forrest
Sara Forrest’s career as a photographer first took root on the great plains of Kansas, her home state. Using her mom’s 35mm Nikon, she began creating documentary projects about local residents and ways of life, soon discovering she had a knack for connecting with people and a passion for telling their stories honestly and artfully.
These days, Sara splits her time between Texas and Washington state and works with some of the most talented and buttoned-up production teams in the country, shooting lifestyle image libraries for global brands. Her work takes her far and wide, from the Patagonian wilderness to the rooftops of Cape Town and the beaches of Rio. She has photographed refugee farmers working in Kansas, yoga instructors in Malibu, car campaigns on the streets of Austin, nonprofit projects in Ethiopia and snorkeling in the Keys.
Things you might not know about Sara: She and her husband compete in reined cow horse events and have two quarter horses. She can hold forth on human biology (her college degree), ballet (she studied the art form in NYC on a scholarship), jewelry making (as a metalsmith, she enthusiastically makes her own), or what it takes to live with a rescue parrot. Sara’s a person of many interests, so it’s only natural that she finds all people interesting. And you can see it in her work—a kind of easygoing openness that makes you feel like an old friend.
