My brother likes to remind me that my early exploration of photography involved taking pictures of very small objects from a very great distance. In the years since I’m happy to say I’ve come up quite a bit closer both in terms of form and a deeper exploration of subject matter.
As I am looking through the lens I am always waiting for a moment: a lived-in moment the viewer can sense as honest and true. Through that moment I endeavor to tell a story and draw the viewer in. I’ve begun to realize some of the power of these moments comes from my own desire to connect; to create some sort of relationship between myself, the camera and my subject.
I am most gratified by the fact that I am often called on when clients are looking to rebrand their product. They come to me to create images in which authentic moments allow the viewer to find themselves and a thread of their own story. Every time someone identifies that particular quality in my work I know I’m right where I need to be and this life I’ve made in photography has been the perfect path.
