James Salzano, based in New York City, is an acclaimed photographer whose ability to understand and communicate the needs of his clients and subjects has earned him worldwide recognition, both for his work in advertising and in portraiture. His vision and insight have attracted many loyal clients, such as Pfizer, Merck Pharmaceuticals, Men’s Health and BMW, all of whom have built campaigns using his signature images.

Jim’s assignments have taken him through Europe, Japan, Singapore and Saudi Arabia. His photographs are at the heart of award-winning global advertising campaigns for several companies, including British Airways, Ford, IBM, Nikon, Sony and Toyota.

Jim applies his natural ability and skill to bring out the unique quality of his subjects. He has had the privilege of taking portraits of a great diversity of people, such as David Bowie, James Earl Jones, Donald Trump, Denzel Washington and the Dalai Lama. His photos are included in the permanent collection of the Portland Museum of Art in Maine. His work has been included in shows at the New Museum of Contemporary Art in New York and the International Art Institute of Detroit.

His humor and experience have made him a popular lecturer at the Brooks Institute in Santa Barbara, the Art Directors Clubs of Cincinnati and Toronto, and the New York chapter of ASMP. He also was on the faculty at Parsons The New School for Design in New York City and lectured at the International Center for Photography.

Jim continues his work on a series of waitress portraits that he’s photographed while traveling throughout the country and around the world. A book compiling these images is currently in the works.
