Shaun Fenn and his team recently completed a whirlwind multi-day shoot capturing images for Massage Envy’s new Because campaign. The campaign, which includes print ads, bus shelters, mailers, and website banners, consisted of more than 20 concepts.

Ad agency Venables Bell & Partners developed the ads, and provided Shaun with a comp and specific tagline for each concept (Because Emily wanted a treehouse. That’s a house. Built by you. In a tree.)  “It was so refreshing, because we were able to start so far down the road,” said Shaun. “Venables gave us these fantastic concepts which were already super tight. Even with the tight comps, some of the ideas were hilarious and we got to really play with them.” Shaun adds. For the treehouse shot, they brought in a movie stunt team to suspend the model high above the ground.

They shot all over Los Angeles, from shopping bags at dawn on Rodeo Drive, to muddy feet on a hiking trail, to a couple walking on the beach. In one house they shot four images from four different seasons… in LA, in the sunshine.

Planning is essential with a project like this and pre-production carried a lot of the weight to keep things running smoothly. “I like to have stuff all planned out in advance so that I can just go and play on the day of the shoot,” said Shaun.

Shaun and his team were a dream to work with,” said Art Producer Renee Hodges. “We had a three-day shoot with multiple talent and locations and they handled it like a well-oiled machine—it was amazing! The shots turned out beautiful under Shaun’s direction. His keen eye and natural collaboration with talent brought a very special look to the final work. And to top it off, he’s a really nice guy to work with. Our client and creatives were very happy throughout the entire process, and especially pleased with the final photography to launch the Because campaign,” Renee added.

A big thank you to Renee and the rest of the Venables Bell & Partners team for this fantastic project, and to Paige Dorian Productions for once again, keeping the machine oiled.
