michael prince shoots lowell's boat shop
We’ve all taken on a hobby or two in quarantine, but the magnificence of a craft truly honed and perfected remains rightfully unmatched. Michael Prince recently had the honor of documenting Matt Billey, a boat builder at Lowell’s Boat Shop in Amesbury, Massachusetts. Established in 1793, Lowell’s is the oldest continuous working boat shop in the country. Prince captured the age-old process of handed down tradition and technique, “It was a true work of art.”
By embracing the natural light of the space and maintaining an honest eye, Prince provides an intimate glimpse into a revered process that often goes unseen.
From colorful splashes of weathered paint, to veteran tools tucked away, Prince’s collection of images not only puts the masterful work of art on display, but juxtaposes its impressive perfection with the simplicity of its surroundings.
