What creative projects were you working on before COVID19 put them on pause? For photographer Annabelle Breakey, what began as a playfully irreverent nod to our culinary guilty-pleasures, soon became a much-needed source of levity in the midst of pandemic tensions. After all, who of us hasn’t indulged behind our very-closed doors these days? “All of us sheltering in place alone, with a web site that will send us way too much Chinese food, while still in our pajamas. I've eaten many, many meals in front of the television and eaten more desserts than normal.”
That makes two of us, Annabelle. We are understanding now more than ever that life is about balance, and, when the pendulum swings as far as COVID19, there is an equal pull in the opposite direction. It’s safe to say that on the other side of masked faces, sanitized hands and extreme precautions, is a small space that begs you to throw caution to the wind-- via that second pint of ice cream, that egg white froth atop your fancy cocktail (at 2:00 in the afternoon), that 3-course lobster dinner you plated perfectly for no one but yourself … because you are a professional chef now, naturally.
Annabelle’s promo series is a vibrant collection of color, tantalizing texture, flavor and visceral visions of the secret pleasures that have now become, for many of us, the highlight of our days. Her creative team’s eye for design, attention to small details and frisky use of cheeky undertones results in a body of work that entices, delights and perhaps most importantly, entertains.
